Learn and Change and Improve

Alright.

This week was amazing. I'll try not to write a novel that no one wants to read.
First off, this week we knew it would be Sister Eden's last week in
Solothurn since her visa expires after 3 months. Kind of sad, but it's
ok. I'm trying not to think about it :)
We had to practice a lot because we organized a Musikalischer Abend, a
music evening in our ward. We did the same thing in May when I was
first here, but decided to do it again now so more people could come.
It's so great. It's this program that some missionaries and ward
members in Switzerland created with a mix from videos, a story line,
and music in between. What's so great is that it really beautifully
and simply introduces themes and lessons that we teach as
missionaries. I really hope they start translating it in different
languages.

So yeah we had to practice a BUNCH, because Sister Eden was in a lot
of numbers (she's very musical, in fact her major is vocal
performance, so of course she had to be a huge part of the program).
It was really bonding with our group of performers. And did Sister
Lehmann take part in the performance, you may ask? Why, of course! I
was the designated page turner for the piano player! Sehr wichtig✌️
Haha but yeah actually, our ward missionary leader kept making jokes
about me not being a part of the program and I thought, oh I'll get
him.... And so without him knowing, I played the piano, in the actual
concert, I went up to play the first song on the piano instead of
Sister Eden. Haha I think I gave him a heart attack. (Actually I was
worried about that because he's 73, but don't worry, he was fine.)
Anyway, it was a big success! The spirit was so so strong, and so many
members invited their nonmember friends and they all felt the spirit
too it was great. The best part was when the guy in the videos is
making commentaries about whether or not God knows him and after a
while of this the kid behind me, Sammuel Schmikde (the one who loves
cars so much) says super loudly, "Ja klar. Gott kennt jede."
"Obviously. Got knows everybody." Hahaha everyone laughed. But it's
true!! I should take Sammuel Schmikde along for joint teaches.
Other miracles this week include the fact that two of our
investigators are on date for baptism!!!!!!!!!!!!
You guys. You guys. This is huge. This is HUGE. Sister Eden hasn't had
a baptism on her mission yet and she only has 3 months left, she was
so happy.

Really it was a miracle. Our transfer goal was for 2 baptismal dates
set, but even just last week, I remember looking at the whiteboard
with our goals written down thinking, ah man.....what a shame.... But
it totally happened! Both were very spiritual lessons.
Also got two new investigators this week and a couple of new people
who are showing so so much interest and portential, it's been amazing
to see.

What a blessing, especially with it being Sister Eden's last week in
Solothurn. I prayed at the beginning of the week that Heavenly Father
would bless us with a "miracle week", for sister Eden. Every week that
we've been together, when Sister Eden and I set our goals, she always
likes to pick big numbers and I give her a look, like, come on, let's
be realistic here. And then she grins and says, Miracle week!!
Well this week is dedicated to Sister Eden and her faith in a miracle week.

One more thing. You may be wondering what in fact is happening next
week if Sister Eden has to leave... I will tell you. Sister Eden is
going to Rosenheim in Germany and I, I am staying in Solothurn and
training a new missionary! A "golden" as we call it in my mission.
Haha I'm excited and nervous and excited and also nervous 😊 it'll be
good.

Isn't this how life goes, as soon as you get comfortable and life is
good and normal and you're thriving, that's when things change and
craziness gets thrown at you. But as a member told me this week,
without that, we would never learn and change and improve! So true.
Have a wonderful week!

All the people involved in the music evening we had. So so fun practicing with all of them. I love them all so much.

District temple pic

Shout out to Dagmar for being the greatest aunt in the world and sending me a mini raqulet oven and cheese in the mail!! Haha oh man I was soooo happy.

Fondu with Esther. Sister Eden's first (and probably last) time eating fondu! (She was quite sick afterwards)

We went thrift shopping in Bern last Pday and it was AMAZING. Seriously the best thrift shop ever.

Walking to an appointment and looked up and noticed what a pretty area have. Not bad, eh?

Herr Jäggi cried a bit when he had to say goodbye to Sister Eden.

The Caiquo family. Haha I love them so much, I don't think I've ever laughed so hard in my life.

Trying to figure out who Jesus is

Hi there!

This week started off with district pday, with another trip to
Niederhorn. They were all jealous of my fun pictures from when I went
with sister Tauche so I thought I'd sacrifice myself and do it again
:) it was fun. Although I think sister Eden did not find riding down a
mountain path on a scooter very thrilling or safe haha...

We also had exchanges this week with the Reinach sisters which was fun!
The biggest disappointment this week would have to be when one of our
promising investigators emailed us that she did not want to meet with
us anymore. Ugh, I tell you what, this week I have developed a keen
hatred of Anti-Mormon websites. I hate them very much. It is kind of
funny though that she emailed us to tell us this. She's already told
us in the past that she felt bad saying anything against the church to
mine and Sister Eden's faces because we're just so nice and sweet.
Haha we got mad at her and told her she has to tell us when she has a
problem with us or something, that people are honest and rude to me
and sister Eden all the time and we can take it! But yeah, she still
didn't have the courage to tell it to our faces because sister Eden
and I are just to sweet and nice I guess :)

We did have a miracle this week though! Sister Eden and I were at the
church building for a practice for a music concert we're planning this
coming Saturday. It was just a half hour before we had to be home
though when it finished which wasn't crazy practical cause we couldn't
go anywhere further away from the church to go finding but it was also
too early to go home. And even though I was saying, ah man! All these
people by the church probably have been bugged by the missionaries so
many times they'll just be annoyed with us!
But faithful Sister Eden
insisted that we try. So we did! And it was great!! We met this guy
who had moved there about 2 years ago and had always wondered about
the church and had looked up as much as he could online about us. He
was excited to see us and said, "wow! I have lots of questions for
you! Also, I'm just really trying to figure out who Jesus really is.
One things for sure though is that he did live..."

Now all you American and South American and African missions, you
probably get this daily, but to have an actual Swiss guy say
this.....wow. Wow. Haha definitely a miracle.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Really gross looking meat truck we saw everywhere the other day (this is Chantal, she came home from her mission a little while ago and went out finding with us).

"So a good thing"

The thompsons do our apartment inspections. They're really nice :) they told us our apartment looks good AND made us cinnamon rolls.

Thanks for the notes and emails

Hello!

Another good week here. Pday wasn't anything too special, Sister Eden
had to write some scholarships, but I had a nice time writing some
letters.

Tuesday was really great though, Sister Eden and I planned a finding
activity for our district. We drew the plan of salvation with chalk on
the sidewalk in Solothurn city center and were able to show people
what we believe about where we were before this life, why we're here
and where we're going. It was fun! Some of us stayed by the picture,
and others went through the city, there were missionaries everywhere!
It was great.

Sister Eden and I had our missionary leadership conference again in
MĂźnchen and that was great as usual.

We also had a really cool experience. There's this guy that we keep
seeing or crossing paths with. We've gone up to talk to him everytime
for a bit, but it was always a bit awkward, like he always gave off
the vibe that he'd be anywhere else than talking to us haha. But get
this. One day we were talking to someone in the street and he came up
to us. Apparently he knew the lady we were talking to but then he was
like, oh I'll wait till you finish talking to this lady, I'd like to
talk to you guys. Haha our faces must have looked so funny, we were a
bit caught off guard. Well, we ended up talking to him for a super
long time. He told us his whole life story and how he felt that he
should talk to us. We explained who we were and what we do and he was
like, what are you doing here!? No one in Switzerland cares! Go to
Kenya! (He's from Kenya) The people there are open and nice and care
about God! Hahaha  But yeah then yesterday we had a lesson with him and it was so
spiritual, he was so happy and really felt the spirit it was
wonderful.

A funny thing that happened this week was while we were tracting. We
were talking to someone at the door and I finished saying something
and turned to sister Eden to let her talk because I was kind of
messing up like crazy and it was awkward. But then I look over and
sister Eden is crying! Haha she has this thing where her eyes start
stinging like crazy and her eyes start watering super bad and she
can't see. So I just was doing a bad job teaching and my companion
next to me is crying and oh man it was awkward haha
Well that's it for this week! Have a great week! Thank you so much for
all the notes and emails, it's really so nice of you all.

Sidewalk chalk finding

Elder Cornetta and Elder Hartle are fighting over the celestial kingdom. And elder Nielsen figured he'd settle for the Telestial kingdom.

Sister Eden and I wanted to switch things up so we've been moving our mattresses to every room. This is our study room. We also moved the mattresses in the kitchen too! Haha ah it's pathetic what we find entertaining and fun...

Our GMK, ward missionary council I think it's called in English? Anyway, I don't think I've ever talked about them, but here are the Joders! Pronounced "yoda". Schwester Joder always makes us delicious breakfast before the meeting and this time she made us a "Danish breakfast" with smoked salmon on toast for Elder Nielsen's birthday. (Elder Nielsen's from Denmark.) Mmmm I was in heaven. I love smoked salmon. Poor sister Eden doesn't like fish though.

We had to go through Zurich on the way to Munich and quickly ran to the river to talk a selfie.

Cool house in Munich. And sister Pascal.

All the sister training leaders.

All the sister training leaders and zone leaders of the mission.

And for the finale, the BEAUTIFUL earrings I got from a special someone this week. Hahahaha oh Andreas, he kills me. This made me soooo happy. So funny.

Passed my 6 month mark....weird

Hi there!

Another solid week here in Solothurn.

Started off celebrating Sister Multamäki's birthday at Ikea which was a blast. Haha man we were so happy. Imagine guys, we have no pinterest, all art museums in Switzerland are closed on Mondays and apart from the occasional artistic member, we are extremely cut off from the art/interior design/style world. Ikea was beautiful. Really like heaven. From the hip people, to the art to the creative interior design ideas, it was like pinterest in real life. irl. we took a ridiculous amount of pictures.

The coolest miracle happened this week. Sister Eden and I were street contacting with our district in Solothurn. We went down a street that we usually don't go down because there aren't too many people, but we just figured we'd go since the rest of our district were on the main streets. We talked to a couple cool people and then when it was time to go back, we saw Yasaman!! Now I know that doesn't mean too much to you right now, but let me explain.

We lost contact with Yasaman, just like Joy. She wasn't answering any of our calls, she lives on top of the mountain so it's really hard for us to make the time to get up there, let alone actually get up there, and she didn't come to church. So we really didn't know what happened to her. And don't tell me that's just how missionary work is sometimes, I know that! I've had plenty of people be nice and interested and then ignore us, but Yasaman was super cool. She actually went up to the missionaries in the street saying that she had been looking for our church! She was so so happy to see the missionaries. And she was so excited to meet us the first time. She paid a lot of money for the bus trip to church too.

Anyway, so 3 weeks after that we saw her! She was so so happy! She gave us huge hugs and said, "My Sisters!!" Haha she's so sweet. So turns out her phone wasn't working and she didn't have enough money to come to church. But she had been reading the Book of Mormon every single day since we last saw her! Isn't that so great? Man we were so happy. Her life is extremely difficult, yet her faith gives her such a light. She is an incredible example of faith in Christ. She loves her Savior so much and is strengthened so much through him.

So that and plenty of other miracles happened this week so that was great. Hope everyone is doing well!

I got the salmon.

Swag

Look closer at these catalogs....
That's right. We're on the cover of an Ikea catalog. Hahahaha oh man this was the best pday ever.
(Ikea was holding a photoshoot and they pasted it on the cover :) They were doing it for free! I even got a post card version! Haha so fun. I'm just mad that I didnt think to hold up a Book of Mormon!)
Happy birthday Sister Multamäki!

Check it out, we made homemade tortillas with avocado, zucchini and salsa. Also we were dumb and had the window open. And now I have a bunch of mosquito bites again.

Hahahaha this was right outside of our apartment. Hahaha so many random things in the picture.

I didn't realize she was taking a selfie, but she totally caught the moment of me talking to the cow. We met up with some members and Karyna for some grillin' Saturday evening.

Karyna, her kids, and Sister Eden.
Karyna's adorable kids.
This is Sammuel. We were at these members house for dinner. He LOVES cars. He's only 5 but knows all these car names. I think he was thoroughly disappointed when he asked me what my favorite car was and all I could say was,"I don't know....fiat?"

Bad quality selfie with the whole family
When it's time for planning, Sister Eden grabs her planner and Sister Lehmann grabs her pajamas, the chocolate, and milk
